These Are The “Hidden Figures” In LGBT Activism

With India’s supreme court ruling to finally make gay intercourse legal in September, and the landslide of legalizations concerning homosexuality in 2016 and 2017, it seems as though after years the tide is finally turning in favor of those who are LGBT. (Even though transgender people still have some laws to fight before gaining access to the full scope of human rights.) As we look to the future for progress, we need to give credit

LGBT Violence In Brazil Has Increased By 30%

A place known to be LGBT+ friendly is also one of the most deadliest places for LGBT+ people. Grupo De Bahia reported that there were 387 deaths as a result of homophobia in the past year, rising the violence by 30%. Many suicides accompany these deaths. The municipality of Sao Paulo is known to have a humongous pride parade and Brazil is known to have marriage equality and legal resources for transgender lives, so why would

Pedophiles Are Claiming That They Deserve Rights

Trigger Warning: Pedophilia, LGBTQ+ misrepresentation, rape, child molestation Pedophiles are people who are sexually attracted to children. In many instances, the act of attraction isn’t illegal, but any action that comes about as a consequence of that is not only highly illegal but incredibly scarring to the children involved. Taking advantage of children in this way is — and this shouldn’t need to be stated — wrong and grotesque. It’s a terrible abuse of human rights. Among many other things, actions

An Australian Trans Woman Wins UN Support To Change Her Birth Certificate

Until June 15th, six out of eight Australian states and territories had laws barring married transgender people from changing their gender on their birth certificates. If they wanted their gender identity to be affirmed, they were legally required to divorce their partners. This sounds like a gross violation of human rights-and a woman from New South Wales agreed. The woman, who prefers to be known only as G, was born in 1974 and began her

Being Religious and Being LGBT+ Aren’t Mutually Exclusive

Ah, yes, religion and the LGBT+ community: two of the most seemingly incompatible communities on the face of the earth. One of the most widely acknowledged stereotypes for religious people is that they are all heterosexual and homophobic because of their religion. Many religious denominations in the public eye claim that their higher power is anti-LGBT+ and that being LGBT+ is unnatural. So, religion is often associated with homophobia. Because of this, it is assumed

Texas Federal Judge Denies Obama Administration Bill for Transgender Health Protections

As the campaign for the equal opportunities of the LGBTQ+ community parades forward into the rosy-cheeked, doe-eyed year of 2017, the malignant crusade of anti-LGBTQ+ parties—chiefly, that of United States’ government authorities—uncompromisingly rampages. An adversely up-to-the-minute materialization of the federalized discrimination and prejudice has pioneered upon December 31st, 2016, within The Lone Star State, when U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor legislated a temporary injunction to bar a President Barack Obama administration decree to fortify the

New York Legislator Proposes Anti-Conversion Therapy Law Entitled “PENCE”

New York legislator Patrick Burke has introduced a local law entitled Prevention of Emotional Neglect and Childhood Endangerment, or PENCE for short, which would ban the practice of conversion therapy in Erie County. This not-so-coincidentally titled bill comes after the election of Donald Trump and his VP Mike Pence, who has publicly endorsed the practice of conversion therapy. During his run for Congress in 2000, Pence wrote on his campaign website, “Resources should be directed toward those

Taiwan Will be the Leading Asian Country to Legalize LGBTQ+ Marriage Equality

Throughout Asian mythological folklore, homosexuality and homosexual confrontations are referenced with mystical scenes set to celestial Chinese, Japanese, and Hindu deities amongst ferocious beasts to be slain.  For instance, Chinese mythology has been academically evaluated to have been influenced by Taoist and Confucian religious faiths, the instruction latterly incorporated into perspectives of Buddhism.  Not to mention Filipino folk tales, which depict a pre-colonial Philippines reflecting the god of war, Macanduc, and the god of death,

When Will We Talk About the Epidemic of Transgender Killings?

On Saturday, July 23rd, 2016, 25-year old transgender Dee Whigham was burglarized and massacred within her shared Best Western hotel room in Pascagoula, Mississippi.  She had reportedly traveled to frequent the Gulf Coast Black Rodeo with various friends and colleagues. The following Monday, 20-year old New Orleans native Dwanya Hickerson was arrested and brought into custody by Jackson County sheriff’s department deputies after being speculated for the homicide when frames from hotel surveillance supplied evidence

We Are Tired

June 1st marks the beginning of Pride month for the LGBT+ community. It is a time of happiness, acceptance, joy, and well… pride. The pride parade was originally a movement meant to commemorate the Stonewall riots, a set of riots that started on June 28, 1969 when New York police raided the Stonewall Inn, a LGBT+ club, and started forcibly removing people off the premises. This triggered a riot that continued for the rest of
