Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

A Muslim Girl’s Point of View

So I live in California, a very multiracial, multicultural state. This state was categorized as the Rainbow state. People outside of California think we Californians are clouded with happiness. And as a Muslim living in such a ‘rainbow’ state it makes me happy to see people happy with who they are. And if people think being a Muslim in California is easy, they are wrong.

In California, we Muslims are a minority, very little of us actually go to school everyday of the week, very little of us get a good job that pays well. And well being a girl doesn’t give me a greater chance of succeeding much.
Being young and needing to succeed is what we are trained to do. And now that Trump has become our president, Muslims, and all colored people feel endangered. We as a group of people feel like it will be twice as hard to succeed, to graduate high school and to get into a good college. All I want for my people is to feel less endangered and to feel like they have a home in the land of the free. I have family that want to come to America but they are afraid of being tormented cause they wear a hijab or they speak with a strong accent.

In Afghanistan there is ISIS, and they make us Muslims look like extremists, and murderers. As a people we are actually very peaceful, we mind our own business and we love unconditionally.
Social Media doesn’t help at times. Social Media has these kind of people that actually believe what they see on TV. On TV they see Muslims as people who hate Gays, and who’s number one priority is to kill of the races that are opposite of a ‘clean Muslim.’ In this modern world there are no ‘clean Muslims’ for everyone has done something against their culture. For example drinking is not seen well, but many Muslims do it. Another example is one of the prophets that we Muslims worship married a young nine-year old girl cause he wanted to. That was seen as bad back then and still is seen bad now. But this prophet is still worshiped nonetheless of his marriage. Every culture has their flaws, just as every person does.
What I want to see one day is our people embracing a person who is apart of the LGBT+ community. Being peaceful and happy to be apart of a non-oppressed country. And for Americans to see Muslims as their equals.
