Guide to the UK leaving the EU

Currently in the UK we are debating if we should stay in the EU

First off what is the EU ?

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 28 countries. It operates an internal market which allows free movement of goods, capital, services and people between member states.

Trade

Nearly 50% of all the UK’s trade is done within the EU and our membership allows us to have a say over how trading rules are drawn up.

Britain risks losing some of that negotiating power by leaving the EU. But it would be free to establish its own trade agreements.

Immigration

Under EU law, Britain cannot prevent anyone from another member state coming to live in the country – while Britons benefit from an equivalent right to live and work anywhere else in the UK. The result has been a huge increase in immigration into Britain, particularly from eastern and southern Europe.

By leaving the EU we would reduce migration and help the government save money on child benefit.

A drop in immigration would, all else being equal, mean more jobs for the people who remained, but labour shortages could also hold back the economy.

Britain’s place

If we do leave we would be able to re-establish as a truly interdependent nation and be able to have more say on where our money goes and how we spend it.
