Justin Bieber? He Ain’t All Bad

Bieber’s back in the bad books again. His current slip up? Shouting at fans for … screaming?

I know, I know. Sounds terrible right? I mean, not only did he patiently ask fans multiple times to listen while he spoke about the purpose of his tour, which is a segment of the show that he values deeply, as it allows him to connect with fans. But, after becoming fed up with the lack of attention and courtesy, he then walked off stage after this. Dramatic much?

Well, not so much. Speaking from experience, my Purpose Tour date was a night I will never forget. Being close to the stage gave me an intimate experience that I would never change, especially because during his speeches, you could see how much Bieber valued us actually listening to him. Before songs such as “Life Is Worth Living’ and “Purpose”, Bieber would speak of the trials and tribulations he had faced to get where he was today. But what he constantly repeated was the importance of finding your ‘Purpose’.

Given the platform that he has, Bieber acknowledges the importance of putting it to good use. He does not want to only stand on stage and sing songs, he wants the audience to walk away with something. I mean, imagine wanting to inspire and help people by telling them to search for something worth living for, and being constantly screamed over? I know, it all ‘comes with the job’, but just because it does, doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to have a humane reaction to it. It definitely does not mean that you should give up and stop trying to share your message.

Yes, what Bieber did was unprofessional, but it was also very human. I think people forget he was thrown into this position at an age as young as 12. I doubt anyone said to him,

“Listen kid, you’re gonna want to inspire people and connect with fans, but some people will want to treat you like an object and just fantasise over you, instead of treating you like a human being.”

No one prepared him for this, and the fact he still fights to put his platform to good use is, in many ways, inspiring.

I left my show feeling inspired and hopeful that I’ll soon find my purpose, just like he did. I know it won’t be easy, but I know for certain it’s possible.

I’ll leave you with this quote that Bieber says at the end of every show:

“Find your purpose, I’m Justin Bieber, but I’m just a vessel. Thank you.”

I think we should learn to be silent when an artist is talking to fans and listen to a vessel that’s trying to help us. After all, you can listen to the songs in the comfort of your room, so if you want to get the ‘live experience’, you should want to hear what they’re saying and enjoy the full experience.

Who knows, maybe the words spoken by the artist at a live concert can inspire you to find your purpose.
