A young disabled man was recently tied up and beaten by… Anti-Trump supporters? Coming from someone who is Anti-Trump, can I just start off by saying that this isn’t the message we need to be sending. The entire reason we don’t support that man is because he’s disgustingly ignorant, hateful, violent and because that’s exactly what we don’t want for our country, is it not? If there’s one thing that we as a group should be doing is promoting the peace, equality, understanding, and growth that we all so badly want to see in this country. Not supporting Trump is already one step in the right direction but attacking the ones who don’t share the same opinions or views is doing the complete opposite of what we should be doing.
Four arrests were made after a Facebook live video went viral of a disabled man being tortured by a group of people of color in an apartment on the West Side of Chicago.
The victim is currently unidentified but believed to be in his late teens or early twenties. In the video, the victim was forced to drink from a toilet and told to curse Trump while also having his scalp cut as his captors held him at knife point. The suspects are heard yelled things such as “f**k white people” and “f**k Donald Trump” and even stating that they wanted their video to go viral.
The victim was found walking through a neighborhood in Chicago looking what was described as “disoriented” by a policeman who had been on patrol. He was taken to the hospital for injuries and trauma and is presumed to have been held captive from anywhere from 24 to 48 hours as there was a missing persons report filed in the suburbs. Chicago police commander, Kevin Duffin, stated, “The victim is traumatized by the incident. It took us most of the night for him to calm down and talk to us.”
One of the suspects and the victim are acquaintances from the same area and are presumed to have met up before driving to Chicago where it all took place. All four suspects have given videotaped statements after being arrested on battery charges and remain in custody awaiting formal charges. The case is currently being investigated as a kidnapping and hate crime. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson has since downplayed this attack by referring to it as “stupidity” and said he believes there was no political motivation behind the crime but made sure to include that it will be charged appropriately if facts guide them in that direction.
