We all know him as Augustus Waters from “The Fault In Our Stars”, Tommy Ross from “Carrie”, or as Caleb Prior in the series “Divergent”, and for a while rumors have circulated about the extraordinary Ansel Elgort working on a music career. After finishing his role in the “Divergent” trilogy he stopped acting for a while, but now we finally know what he has been doing. In case you haven’t heard: on February third, 2017, Ansel Elgort released his first music video and, trust me, the wait was worth it.
Ansel mostly produces electronic music—he was known as Anslo when he played in festivals like Ultra and Electric Zoo. But when he released his first single “Home Alone,” he tried something different by adding some vocals and lyrics to the beat. He impressed his record label, Island Records, with his voice so much that his managers couldn’t believe it was really him.
The record label was surprised when they noticed that the voice singing was actually his and he serves as a prime example of someone who is naturally gifted—he acts so well that we forget his character is only a character and he can sing so well that we get chills. But his list of talents doesn’t end there—he actually has one more hidden talent that he tried to use in his new music video, and that is his dancing. In my opinion, the singing is great and the acting is spectacular, but the dancing… not so much.
In his new music video, Ansel goes all out on the dramatic, sexy, and, let’s not forget, shirtless scenes. Featured in the video is a mystery girl, but to the fans of Ansel she isn’t so much of a mystery: she’s Violetta Komyshan. She and Ansel have been dating for a while know but they’re official as of 2016.
She acts as the love interest of Ansel in the music video, like she is in real life, while Ansel plays a role totally opposite to how he is in real life. He plays the role of a playboy; in the lyrics, we can see the love that is lost and him living with no regrets. Although the music video is overall amazing, it must’ve been a little bit uncomfortable for the director Warren Elgort (yes—Ansel’s older brother) to direct his little brother in really sexy scenes with girlfriend Violetta.
Well, just so I can let you go watch his new music video without spoiling it, I honestly think this is my opinion as a writer and not an Ansel fan. I think he outdid himself for his first ever music video. It’s an intense video in which he shows us his bad boy side by spending several nights with the girl but always ends up leaving and lets her pick up the pieces of her heart alone, and it just might crush you.
