Those who watch the hit television show “The Voice” know the claim that the show has made no real stars, but, that is not entirely true. As a matter of fact, the show has managed to created an alternative genre sensation, Melanie Martinez.
It was the year 2012 when Martinez auditioned for “The Voice”, and since that day, her career has skyrocketed. Although she did not win the show itself, she progressed to the top 6 before being eliminated from the show. After her elimination from the show, she later went on to produce her first EP, “Dollhouse” in 2014. One year later, her first album was released on ITunes, “Cry Baby”. From her first album, she has released 12 music videos from them, all centered around the character of the album, Cry Baby. With each released video, a story is hidden within the lyrics and video itself.
Now, it is true that many contestants released albums and singles on ITunes, but, it is also true that none of them had received such commercial success. The case with Martinez is that her album, when first released, was No.6 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, No.1 on Alternative Album chart, and No. 5 on the Top Album chart. Not only did her album become a hit, it has also recently become platinum, something that no contestant from “The Voice” has ever accomplished. From her album, she has had two certified gold singles from her album, “Carousel” and “Pity Party”. Yes, making a platinum selling album is amazing, but, without ever being on mainstream radio and with her fan base and herself, she has managed to truly make a name for herself. Over the course of time, she has accumulated millions of fans and has had many concerts. Also, quite recently, she announced the release of her own line of perfume, which is now available.
