Taylor Bennett, who happens to be Chance the Rappers little brother, recently dropped his second album, Restoration Of An American Idol. The album, filled with features from artists like Chance, Lil Yachty and Kyle, highlights the everlasting talent within the Bennett family. However, since Chance is now considered one of the biggest names in music, many only recognize Taylor as Chance’s little brother. Restoration Of An American Idol along with Broad Shoulders, Taylor’s first album, reveal his impressive talent.
Taylor has grown since the release of Broad Shoulders, both literally and figuratively. In “Intro,” the first song on Taylor’s new album, he mentions the changes in his life: “My shoulders got broader, my music got smarter.” Additionally, in January of 2017, Taylor came out as bisexual. Since the media is constantly lacking representation of POC in the LGBTQ+ community, Taylor coming out as bisexual was extremely important in today’s society.
Apart from the changes in Taylor’s life, his music has stayed consistent since his first album. Similarly to his brother, Taylor specializes in rap, incorporated with soul, jazz and pop. Shortly after the release of Restoration Of An American Idol, Taylor announced his first headlining show. By visiting over 10 cities, Taylor is expected to gain attention.
The nine songs that make up Taylor’s album showcase the extreme talent he has. Although Chance has respectably received the most attention, Taylor is an up in rising star. Overall, it looks like good things are coming for Taylor. Both Chance and Taylor provide their music for free on SoundCloud. The choice to exclusively stream their music, while being independent artists, shows their true love for making music. From representing POC in the LGBTQ+ to releasing consistently amazing content, Taylor proves he is way more than Chance’s little brother.
