2016 was a huge year for the Black-ish star Yara Shahidi. Aside from portraying the beloved character of Zoey Johnson for a third year, it was announced that the show would be getting a spinoff on ABC centered around the young woman’s life in college after getting an internship for Teen Vogue in the current season. The 17-year-old activist of Iranian-American and African-American descent also signed with New York’s Women Management modeling agency and starred in Beyonce’s Ivy Park Campaign, without forgetting to speak out for everything she believes in.
Now, the actress told W Magazine she has applied to four colleges including Harvard, where Malia Obama will be attending after a gap year, and the former First Lady of the United States gave her some help in one of the most stressful parts of the whole college process by writing a recommendation letter. She also mentioned that no matter where she ends up getting her education, she intends to double-major in African American studies and sociology.
“I’ve been working more than half of my life and that’s always been balanced with school and all of the other responsibilities, so to have a year to focus on work and to focus on specified interests will be nice before I pick a career and choose what I want to study and my life path.”, she said in an interview with People.
We are all very excited to see what is next in the life of this star on the rise that has already accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. Her talent and the use she has given to her platform show that she is the perfect role model for young girls all over the world.
