Or do people love lies and hate the truth?
What would society really be without lies? No politicians, no misinterpreted television… Economics, religion, technology and parenting all seems to form some sort of culture of lies and the truth is, it makes the world go round.
We want unbiased media, but most of us are unsure of what that even means. We certainly don’t want fake news, and seem revolted by the idea that a man like Trump is in a position to control which media can report within the White House – however we voted Trump in because of his ability to enhance authority.
The media will always be controlled by specific conditions. This means advertisement, and public economy. This new terminology of ‘fake news’ seems to be not so new at all, as forecasted by Noam Chomsky and Edward Herman’s Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of Mass Media. Fake News’ is a broad term that can cover satire, propaganda, conspiracy theories, sensationalism and bent politics. Calling it all ‘fake news’ bares the truth of what the phenomenon really is: propaganda. This propaganda is likely found in political messages, broadcasts and stories but can be traced down to our TV commercials and fashion magazines. All designed to erode the foundations of democracy itself.
Journalists have the power to write up an enemy, like a novelist would in a fiction novel. For example, the attack on the enemy cities like Iraq, Libya and Syria happened because each leader of these countries didn’t essentially belong to the West. The most recent set of WikiLeaks even revealed that it was only when the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in 2009 rejected an oil pipeline running through his country from Qatar to Europe, was he attacked. So while our mainstream media and fashion media develops a feminist slogan on a runway or street style blog, we are supporting rapacious wars that deny the rights of women, and their rights to life. Essentially, we know where the enemy is or was, but couldn’t kill them, so we aim at each other. The real war wherein we put the most effort, is the war within America. These facts run parallel to Chomsky’s idea that our society and news just loves war, and the compensation it delivers to the elite and owners of media, is why we are relentless to avoid propaganda.
In order for the world to function, as well as the media, someone has to be poor, so others can be rich. This truth is something society doesn’t like to admit, so they build a culture of lies. For example, the reason school teachers won’t ever be paid more is simply because they don’t do anything for the economy. Contrasting that, hedge funds managers and sporting events do nothing to benefit society, but we give them our money as if we couldn’t live without them.
It’s not a democratic thing, or a republican thing, or a white thing nor a black thing. It’s a human thing, and majority of the population doesn’t want pure, unbiased truth because it is too hard to handle.
