Fossil Fuels: Consume More to Save More

The heated topic of global warming has been drifting around for years, yet no one has a solution that meets all demands and achieves all goals. Most scientists declare human activity, specifically the burning of fossil fuels, the cause of rising global temperatures. This international problem has lead to several possible mitigation solutions, but none have proved completely successful. However, today I am proposing a brand-new idea to cure the world of the evil that is global warming.

Ever since I was a child, my mother has taken away my phone as a form of punishment. Her logic was that if I did not have my phone, I would not waste my time texting and scrolling through social media. I, of course, immediately argued that I would not be able to contact her without my phone, but she simply advised me to borrow someone else’s phone instead. I eventually became less attached to mobile devices, and here I am today healthy and alive without my phone. We need to apply this scenario to fossil fuels.

My proposal is to get rid of all non-renewable energy sources as soon as possible in order to benefit the world in the long run. The inevitable exhaustion of fossil fuels would force the world to find more eco-friendly energy sources.

Dwelling on the shrinking amount of natural resources will do more harm than good because it wastes precious time and yields no positive results. Sure, it might be tough to recover from the loss of a great percentage of the world’s energy sources, but it forces us to resort to other solutions. The sooner we eliminate the remaining fossil fuels, the sooner we can move onto greener technology. As an international community, we are responsible for the consequences of our actions against Mother Earth.

Now the remaining question is how do we get rid of fossil fuels? Efficient ways to spend all of our resources are quite simple. Anyone can participate in the journey of saving the planet. One way to use fossil fuels is to start driving in huge gas-guzzling trucks with the air-conditioning on and the windows down. There will be no need to carpool; in fact, carpooling should be banned. Anything that relates to saving fossil fuels should be prohibited. We can also help the environment by leaving the lights on all day and all night, even when the house is empty. People might complain that it will be difficult to fall asleep at night with the lights on, but they can easily purchase sleep masks. I also propose to space out which neighborhoods should leave lights on during the night; this will help mitigate the harsh effects of light pollution. Think about the impact on the environment instead of individual needs. This shockingly small amount of effort will drastically benefit Earth in the future. These actions will help us exhaust fossil fuels quicker since the electricity comes from burning coal. We might as well leave the car engine on overnight to waste gas and never turn the air conditioning off.

Fossil fuels meet 81% of the US’s energy demand, but I have faith that humankind can increase the demand in order to empty the remaining supply. Experts predict that natural resources will run out in less than 70 years. Since there is so little of it, the goal of using it all can be easily accomplished, allowing us to move onto more renewable sources. Let us not waste time and take action for our planet.
