If you’re over 18, you’re considered an adult and everyone instantly assumes that you are set out and ready for the “real world”. We’re all busy one way or another, with giving in assignments before the deadline and revising for an upcoming exam or making a presentation for work while living off microwavable noodles, being surrounded with piles on piles of crumpled pieces of paper and 1,000-page textbooks all opened, You don’t even have to move out to experience this because it’s just as worse when you’re still living in your parents’ house and they scream at you to do the plethora of work that you have on your plate.
1. HAVE A TIDY DESK
Clean your desk, I know most of us can’t be bothered but if you want to work, then your desk needs to be free of the unnecessary crap you have lying around. Here’s a list of what you should keep at your desk
- Your computer
- A notebook, or a couple
- A candle
- A cup to keep your one million pens in
- Small trinkets what you desire that you think would make your desk look pretty and “aesthetically” pleasing
Keep all the things that are important in one place so you don’t lose them and make sure they don’t get lost in that pile. Get a magazine file to keep any other spare notebooks and textbooks so they’re not on your desk but they are easy to get to.
2. MAKE LISTS
Making lists has been helpful to me as they remind me of certain things that I have to do, such as assignments, future articles that I need to submit, etc. For film projects, I like to make lists of different shots I want to do. It makes it easier to remind yourself that something needs to get done and it will somehow motivate you.
3. SPEND YOUR MONEY WISELY
Set yourself a budget of the amount of money that you know you’re going to spend. From what I’ve seen, most adults buy tabloid newspapers and fun-looking stationery from WHSmiths. Buy those things and act like you know what you’re doing.
4. DO WORK AHEAD OF TIME
If you know what the assignment is, then you best believe you’re gonna be burning that midnight candle and do it in one night. This will help you as you won’t have that crippling stress and anxiety that looms over you because you have one too many assignments to hand in. So to prevent that, do the work ahead of time so you won’t feel like your brain is about to explode.
5. WATCH CHILDREN’S TV
Listen, this is the only thing that I am actually being serious about on this list. Watching children’s TV will make you less stressed and make you feel good, but beware because it can also trap you. You will find yourself commenting on every little thing and slowly, you will come to the realization that you’re becoming old and one day, you won’t have the mentality to enjoy things like that anymore.
Follow these steps and watch yourself dominate over adulthood (or if you’re anything like me, not.)
