Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Former Presidents Team Up To Fundraise For Puerto Rico And the Virgin Islands While Trump Goes on Twitter Rants

Five former presidents have come together to include Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in their campaign “One America Appeal.”

This campaign will allow people to donate to Unidos Por Puerto Rico and the Fund for the Virgin Islands. Both are 501(c)(3) organizations (nonprofit organizations that are exempt from taxes).

Individuals can now donate to the Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Irma, and Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. The charity states that 100 percent of donations will go to relief efforts. The campaign is a joint effort of former presidents, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George HW Bush, and Jimmy Carter.

Though Houston and Florida have gotten a plentiful amount of aid, there has been criticism about the lack of aid sent to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. These 5 former presidents are taking a stand where our current one is not.

In fact, instead of making efforts to aid our islands, or even showing interest or sympathy, current President Donald Trump is busy having Twitter fights, and his biggest concern is NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem.

It is frightening to see that our current president is lost in his own delusional world, spewing racist remarks and finding new groups of people to insult every day, in order to avoid discussing the current catastrophic issues we are facing today.

However, there is always a silver lining, and it is uplifting to see that other influential politicians are stepping in and fulfilling the role that our president cannot seem to do. America needs a strong leader in this time of societal, environmental, and economic unrest and unfortunately, I can definitely say that just 9 months into his presidency, Trump is failing us all.
