Being into makeup or working in the makeup industry, it’s so easy to get sucked into all the popular brands and products that are out there. You can very easily become one of those people that uses large brand name products and nothing else. Now, I am definitely not saying there is anything wrong with name brands. I am a sucker for a lot of those brands myself. But there’s just something so rewarding about spending that same amount of money on products that are just as good quality, and you get more products with that money.  I am one of those people who is willing to try any brand that has products that appeal to me, which can sometimes cause me to waste money. It’s always a hit or miss when it comes to indie makeup brands. But without a doubt I can say that Star Crushed Minerals is one of those indie brands that can gladly take all my coins.

I was first introduced to Star Crushed Minerals through the vast cave that is ‘Makeup Twitter’. Over the last couple years, ‘Makeup Twitter’ has grown to the point where makeup artists and enthusiasts alike share their looks, makeup news, spread advice and just drool over new products coming out. One of my favorite makeup artists on Twitter is Taylor McGaughey (Twitter:@taylormcgayhee ; Instagram:@taylormcgaughey). This girl is so freaking talented you guys. Her blending skills are out of this world and her looks are always so creative and just perfect. I had been following her for a while, and when I saw two of her looks (shown below) using Star Crushed Minerals shadows and highlighters and I was HOOKED. Just look at this perfection. I highly, highly recommend that you all follow her on social media. She also has a YouTube channel ‘Taylor McGaughey‘ that you should also follow. She has an awesome tutorial posted on the blue look below

Okay now that I’m done gushing, back in August, Star Crushed Minerals had given out codes for 50% off all their products. The codes are no longer active for the time being, but I just HAD TO buy tons of stuff from them. I had been wanting to try out their shadows and this was the perfect time to do it. Since I was not that smart and ordered all my stuff on the last day the codes were active like everybody else, it took a bit of time for me to get my products. I of course was fine with that because guys, the wait was so worth it. Their shadows are SO PIGMENTED! And the highlighters…..just wow. I was so impressed with the quality of everything. Star Crushed Minerals is a vegan and cruelty-free brand which is a major plus, and they are also inexpensive! There is not one single product that is more than $10 dollars, which is rare ESPECIALLY with indie brands. Even though pictures really don’t do these products much justice, below are a few swatches of some of the shadows I purchased.

Star Crushed Minerals matte shadows

Just look at that pigmentation! I only did two swipes of shadow per shade, and to be honest I didn’t really need to do the second one. The metallic and shimmer shadows that I purchased were also very pigmented. All of their shadows and highlighters are loose pigments that are in small containers that have a sifter. The sifters are removable, but it can be a process and a bit messy. For the shadows you can pick between two different weights depending on how much you want. And because these shadows are so pigmented, a little goes a long way. You really don’t need much on your makeup brush at a time, and if you put too much it gets hard to blend it out. These colors are very blendable and show up so well on the skin.

I of course could not wait to start using these products, and I knew that one of the first eye looks I did with them I would use only these shadows, and I have to say I think it turned out pretty good!

Shadows used; ‘King Triton’, ‘Royalty Reinvented’, ‘Zombie Star’, ‘The Purple One’, and ‘Nova Kissed’. I used the ‘Sheer Joy’ highlighter in my inner corner.

So far I am super impressed with these shadows. Aside from the obvious fallout when I apply the shadows, I have had no problems with any of them. They didn’t stain my lids, I had almost no problems with transfer of the metallic shadows, and they were very easy to blend. Overall, this brand has an A= for me, and I think you all should give this brand a shot! I know I will be going back to their website to purchase more.
