Oh Wonder, a London-based pop duo consisting of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, have already captured the hearts of many teens with their electric dream pop music and their fun, artistic vibes. Recently, the band released a music video to their eclectic hit ‘All We Do’. Throughout the video, the members of Oh Wonder interview people from all over the world on what it means to be human.
They reached out to artists and filmmakers from all over the world, and the result was a magnificent plethora of definitions about being human. Their widespread interviewing wasn’t the end of it though. Even after the video was released to the public, they arranged for people all over the world to share their input on what it means to be human. Through social media, people from all over used words and images to portray what it means to be a human being in today’s society, You can see a visual representation of their results, which portray each person’s definition as well as their physical location, on Oh Wonder‘s website. These varied results embodied a sense of unity and universal acceptance, and many portrayed the fact that all humans experience ostracization of some sort, and it is our duty as flawed human beings to accept and love one another despite our differences.
The song itself talks about people being caged in by societal expectations and always living in a hideout, encapsulated by fear. The music video aims to take away the pressure that society places on us and urges everyone to build on equality by sharing love and music with others. Oh Wonder truly creates a safe and accepting environment for all and uses their music to contribute towards a more united, loving world. Members Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht have stated that, “[E]veryone is equal. We are all human. We all deserve the world”. This band is truly the embodiment of artistic cultural acceptance, from their investigative music videos, which build upon equality, to their concerts, which establish atmospheres of social escape and universal acceptance.
