Certain colors are associated with each season. And every year we use these colors to create the perfect trendy eye look. This time of year, the cranberry, bronze, plum, and orange shades are in heavy rotation when it comes to makeup. We’ve all seen the typical color schemes for eye looks around this time. It’s the perfect way to do a quick look and get out the door. There are so many palettes out there that can create a million different fall and winter looks, but these are my top 10 fall/winter season palettes:
1. Lorac Mega PRO Palette 3 (sold out)
This past September, Lorac Cosmetics released their Mega PRO 3 Palette exclusively at Ulta. Unfortunately, it is no longer available, so if you do have it, consider yourself lucky! To me, this palette is the ultimate winter season palette. The cranberry and icy blue shades are perfect for creating any kind of winter look. It’s the perfect combination of cool and warm tones and has an even amount of matte and shimmer shades so you can do as many looks with this palette as possible.
2. Violet Voss Holy Grail Palette
This Violet Voss palette is number 2 on my list of perfect fall palettes. Just look at those shades!! If you don’t have this palette I highly recommend you get it. It’s a little pricey (retails at $45) but it’s so worth it. The shimmery shades in this palette are so pigmented and perfect, and the matte shades are easy to blend. Fall is all about warm colors to me and this palette is perfect.
The Morphe 35O palette is THE PALETTE of fall. This is one of the most popular palettes out there for creating warm fall looks. If you buy any palette, get this one. The 35F ‘Fall into Frost’ palette which came out this year, follows closely behind the 35O as an awesome fall palette. This palette is all shimmer shades except for the bottom row which has the perfect range of basic Matte shades to create any look. If you have these two palettes you are set for fall. Not only are Morphe palettes inexpensive, they are highly pigmented and great to use.
4. Tarte Tartlette in Bloom Palette
This cute little palette is like the perfect fall palette to carry around in your bag for a quick look. It has a good mix of matte and shimmer shades that you can do multiple eye looks in a short amount of time. Tarte palettes always come with good quality shadows and great pigmentation, so I definitely recommend this palette.
5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
The widely popular Modern Renaissance palette is another one of my go to fall palettes. This warm-toned palette has pretty much everything you need for fall, from cranberry and orange shades to dark browns and champagne colors. I do wish there were more shimmer colors, but Anastasia can do no wrong in my eyes. You can do anything from a full or half cut crease to a matte smokey eye with this palette.
6. Smashbox Full Exposure Palette
Whenever I look at this palette, it just makes me want to do a silver smokey eye, which I think is a perfect dark winter look. While this palette does have a mix of warm and cool tones, the silvery and gray shades stand out more to me. There are so many fall themed palettes out there that it’s hard to find ones that work for winter. This is one of those palettes that caters to both.
7. Too Faced Stardust by Vegas Nay Palette (no longer available)
Unfortunately, this palette was limited edition and is no longer available, but I would consider this a great winter palette. Most of the shades in this palette especially the dark cranberry, gold, and dark bronze are shades I see more in the winter months. These colors are very pigmented and easy to blend. If you were able to get this palette when it released, add it to your fall/winter season pile!
8. Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette
Urban Decay has a lot of palettes that can work for this time of the year, but if you’re someone who likes a more matte look, this is your palette. This palette has a good mix of warm and cool toned shades that can be used any time of the year. This is also the perfect palette if you have some single shimmer shadows that you want to use.
9. Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette
This palette from Too Faced is another great palette to have in the fall. Plus, it smells like chocolate, so who could go wrong with that? The majority of the shades in this palettes are different shades of brown and copper/gold which to me just scream ‘fall’. The pop of blue is perfect for those of you who like a little color but don’t want to go overboard.
10. Anastasia Beverly Hills Master Palette by Mario (sold out)
This highly anticipated Anastasia Beverly Hills palette is a great winter season palette. I, unfortunately, missed my chance to get this palette, but if you got your hands on it consider yourself lucky! This mostly cool toned palette has everything you need to create one of a kind look. If you have any other Anastasia palettes then you know this one has great quality shadows.
BONUS: And if all else fails, create your own palette! Sometimes you can’t find the right shade in any palette you might own, so having single shadows may work better. Lots of cosmetic companies are starting to come out with single shadows, but if you want a good range of highly pigmented shadows that go from inexpensive to a little pricey I would highly suggest Coastal Scents hot pots, Anastasia Beverly Hills single shadows, Makeup Geek eyeshadow pans, and Coloured Raine single shadows. I have tried the single shadows from all four of these brands and I definitely think they are the best there is out there. If you are buying single shadows I would recommend a Z-Palette or the Makeup Forever XL Magnetic Palette to place your shadows in. The Makeup forever palette is cheaper than the largest Z-Palette and holds more shadow pans, so I would suggest that one first.
There are so many other palettes out there that are perfect for this time of the year. But remember, there is no ‘wrong’ way to do fall/winter season. It’s not all about the trendiest looks, but having fun with it! So grab your perfect fall or winter palette and create your own unique look.
