Despite pushes and protests in hopes of the electoral college not choosing Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States, the electoral college has officially selected Mr. Trump as our next commander in chief.

Although there was a possibility that the electoral college would pull a fast one on the billionaire real estate mogul (as I speculated yesterday), it was pretty much certain that the electors of red states would stay true to their pledge to their party and stick with Trump. And they did.

In addition to the disappointing results of overall electoral college decision, there were some surprises and interesting events that occurred. For example, one Maine elector actually voted for Bernie Sanders instead of Hillary Clinton. Though the vote makes essentially no difference, it definitely sends a message to the democratic party about what kind of candidate the people want in the future. Another interesting event was the former president Bill Clinton was the first New York state elector to cast a vote for his wife, Hillary Clinton.

So this is really the end, isn’t it? Reality is finally beginning to set in that Donald Trump will definitively be the next president of the United States… yikes. Let’s send up a prayer for the future of our nation and hope that he doesn’t turn the USA to complete crap in the next four years. Hopefully at this point in 2020, the electoral college is casting their votes for someone better than both Trump and Clinton. Elizabeth Warren? Michelle Obama? Bernie??? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Until then, I leave you with this tweet from Ronan Farrow summing up the electoral college for basically everyone.
