Sticky Fingers (STIFI) is an Australian band that was formed in Sydney, 2008. On the 2nd of January 2017 they performed in front of 19,000 people at the Bay Dreams Music Festival in New Zealand.
Prior to this, on the 5th of December 2016 the band released a statement on their Facebook page saying that they were “going on an indefinite hiatus” due to a number of “internal issues,” before promising to finish the shows that they had booked over New Years.
After the first song of their set had finished, a group in the middle of the mosh started chanting. In seconds the entire stadium was shouting ‘don’t break up!’
Standing in the crowd, arms in the air, screaming at the top of our lungs – it felt like we were together. Everyone was unified, all rallying for the same cause and with same feelings running through our veins. Despite the fact that some in the audience weren’t die hard supporters, they still let their voices be heard purely because they thought it was the right thing to do. Maybe the feeling of being involved was enough.
Even though our beloved Sticky Fingers was looking at going on an ‘indefinite hiatus,’ we were still filled with happiness because it seemed like we were making a difference in their minds as the band grinned at us.
The band posted on their Instagram (@stickyfingersband) saying “thank you Bay Dreams,” and that they “took it”. This indicated that just one stadium filled with people generated an idea that was heard. Since then that caption has been taken down and replaced.
The power of 19,000 people united for the same cause is astronomical.
Applying the same determination, passion and love into other local or global issues could result in a massive difference being made.
