On Friday, the NFL made the announcement that the three original Schuyler Sisters from the popular Broadway musical Hamilton will be singing at Super Bowl LI. At the pregame show, they will be performing “America the Beautiful.” Other performers for Super Bowl LI include Luke Bryan, who will be singing the national anthem, as well as Lady Gaga for the anticipated halftime show.
The three women from Hamilton are Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.
Renée Elise Goldsberry originated the role of the oldest Schuyler sister, Angelica, and left the show in September. Phillipa Soo played Eliza, the middle Schuyler sister who ended up marrying Alexander Hamilton. She left the show back in July and is starring in the upcoming musical adaptation of Amélie. Jasmine Cephas Jones played the often forgotten Schuyler sister, Peggy, and Maria Reynolds. Jasmine parted from the musical this past December. The actresses and the characters they previously played have become well known in the theatre community and have been and inspiration for many.
Renée Elise Goldsberry and Jasmine Cephas Jones have posted about their anticipation for their pregame performance on their Instagram accounts, and Phillipa Soo confirmed that they will be singing on her Twitter page. Fans of the musical have shown immense support and excitement towards the announcement that the three women will be reunited onstage.
