I turned on my TV yesterday and was so excited to see a new Target commercial. I usually don’t particularly care about commercials on TV, but Target has never had me look away at their commercials. My dad actually used to work for Target, and he even agrees Target stays innovative with their marketing and advertising, something you don’t usually see nowadays in big branded companies like that.
The newest commercial included bright, vibrant colors, showcasing the theme of “It Takes Two”, featuring two of everything, clothes, food, animals, you name it. The people were dancing and they even featured models, and not just skinny American models, but plus size black models.
It tells me a lot about a company when they include plus size models. Not only are they symbolizing that you can love yourself in all shapes and sizes, but that ANYONE can wear what they want to, and that it shouldn’t be about size, or skin color.
The commercial features a song called “It Takes Two” by Carly Rae Jepsen, Lil Yachty, and Mike Will Made It. I had the song stuck in my head all day, and realized it was a perfect spring break and summer jam.
And just recently, Target created the Target Swim Campaign celebrating bikinis, one pieces, and tankinis on women of all shapes and sizes. They brought in Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford, professional skateboarder Lizzie Armanto, dancer and Youtube star Megan Batoon, and at the center of the campaign, plus size model Denise Bidot. Target is now encouraging all Target swimsuit purchasers to post a picture of their swimsuit with the hashtag #TargetSwim. The fabric is flexible and flatters your body shape, whatever it may be. Their swimsuits are affordable and range from solid colors to crazy, unique prints for the upcoming Spring Break or summer by the water. I would definitely recommend trying them on at Target stores near you, I promise you will be so surprised and happy with what you find!
Once again Target, thank you for being inclusive and celebrating women and the beautiful diversity between one another. I hope that other companies will continue to follow your lead in advertising and continue the strong and inspiring message to women all over the world. Beautiful does not only include the sizes of small or medium.
