In honor of Lemonade’s first anniversary, four colleges have been selected to participate in Beyonce’s “Formation Scholars”. The scholarship will be awarded to four girls who are entering as freshmen or already attend the school and study in one of the four required subjects that the scholarship centers around for the 2017-2018 school year.
Girls hoping to attend or already attending Howard University, Berklee College of Music, Parsons School of Design, and Spelman College must also be studying literature, African American studies, music, or creative arts in order to be considered for the scholarship.
Any additional information on the awards and application deadlines will be available on the college’s website, as told by Beyonce’s post on her website.
The “Formation Scholars” award will be looking to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside of the box and are bold, creative, conscious, and confident.”
Spelman College, for now, has been the only college to release the deadline and requirements for the scholarship with the recipient to be announced sometime in June. Spelman had also made it a requirement to write an essay on “[h]ow the album ‘Lemonade’ [has] inspired [their] educational goals?”
Other participants like Howard have tweeted that they will be releasing details in the next 30 days. While Parsons and Berklee have only been tweeting in gratitude of Beyonce and retweeting articles on the subject.
According to the New School Free Press, Parson students are excited about the opportunity Beyonce is giving one lucky student the opportunity to follow a career in a creative or a professional field.
“[I] think it’s a really great opportunity for women, especially women of color in the creative and professional fields to be able to afford going to and pursuing their careers,” Parsons Strategic Design and Management sophomore Sarah Fried told the New School Free Press.
Happy One Year Anniversary to Lemonade.
