The Help Hotline was created in September of 2012 by Kasey Lemley. Lemley created the campaign to raise awareness to issues such as suicide and self harm. Lemley posts encouraging messages and photos daily.  It grew faster than she had expected, however – now the followers total over 23,000.

In 2014 the account started receiving some rather impressive recognition. In March of 2014 The Help Hotline was named a finalist in the Shorty Awards, an award ceremony held every year in New York City honoring the best in social media. The account was a finalist in the category, Teen Activism.

In May of 2015, because of the campaign, Lemley was named one of Business Insider’s Most Impressive Graduates.

Lemley created the account to help people. She wanted to use her personal struggles and accomplishments as examples to help others through their recovery. In 2010, Lemley was suicidal due to bullying and years of abuse. She wanted to give up, but she didn’t. She is now over a year clean of self harm is a living example to her followers that recovery is possible.
