Hillary Clinton has caused a lot of controversy with the inconsistency of her statements from the mid-90s to the present, especially with the black community, Many activists and protesters have asked her questions through email, social media, and at her campaign rallies. Based from video footage, she continues to blantantly ignores them and asks security to escort them out of her rally. Now, that Southern states are behind her, the Clintons have started to show their “true colors”.
Recently, a video of Bill Clinton at a Clinton rally was released onto YouTube. In this video, Bill Clinton disrespectfully addresses a #BlackLivesMatter protester, who yelled a question to him from the crowd. Before “answering” the question, Clinton chuckled while Hillary supporters booed the woman. Clinton continued to defend his wife from her controversial statements, skimming over the question and barely answered it. Instead, he made a mockery of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, and saying that supposed supporters like her are defending the men and women that are killing their children. He tells the crowd that she is ignorant and that when people who continue to yell and try to invalidate “facts” don’t understand what they are defending. The people continued to cheer while he insulted this woman, and nobody in the crowd tried to defend her. This video quickly spread to social media and has sparked a discussion about this video and other statements.
The issue with the Clintons are that they are inconsistent with topics that are discussed through interviews, rallies, etc. When people ask them about things they said in the past, they quickly deny it without giving a reason of why their opinion has changed. Many Hillary supporters don’t notice how easily she can flip issues or focus on trends to appeal to minorities, millennials, and the middle-class. One day she can on a talk show dabbing and whipping, but the next day she could be saying that those dances aren’t appropriate for youth. People of the middle-and-lower class can be naive to the point that they trust the perspective of someone who has never been in the situation that they are talking about. For example, Hillary Clinton got stage of “Black Girls Rock” to try to speak about the hardships of black women and the attention that they aren’t receiving from society. A few months before, a black woman stood in front of her in a silent protest about black women’s rights, and she was ignored by Clinton. She claims to support minorities and fight for their rights but rarely participates in any marches that are walking for their rights.
The media also sheds a more positive light on Hillary Clinton, as she would be the first white woman to be elected for president, than they would for Bernie Sanders. The other democratic candidate, Bernie Sanders has represented and fought for minorities since the late 50’s. Many political shows are not allowed to show which side they are for and are supposed to be moderators. People depend on these talk shows to be their guides, but are most often not shown everything.
The Clintons (especially Hillary) tend to speak on topics that are relevant. Will Hillary Clinton be as passionate about black women’s rights as she was on Black Girls Rock? Will she lower college tuition in the office? The questions can’t be answered confidently because of her inconsistency, especially with minorities’ issues. Because of Hillary’s flip-flop attitude, she doesn’t truly deserve the minority vote.
