Recent reports have claimed that Paul Ryan is considering seeking the presidential nomination at this summer’s Republican National Convention. If true, it could really shake up the presidential race. It’s been speculated that many of Trump’s supporters would leave Trump to instead support Ryan. But in light of these rumors, he has stated that he will in fact NOT be running.

“I want to put this to rest once and for all,” he said in a speech in Washington, DC, “I do not want nor will I accept the nomination for our party.”

Although it seems like the Republican Party is scrambling to find a candidate who can trump Trump’s success, Paul Ryan is not their guy. And it doesn’t seem like Ted Cruz and John Kasich are either. In fact, a recent New York primary poll shows Trump it a 35 point lead over his not-so-competitive republican competitors. Even though a contested convention is a possibility with Trump need 494 more delegates to clinch the nomination with only 854 delegates still available, it’s growing increasingly convincing that Trump will become the eventual nominee.

Most Republicans would probably prefer a potential Ryan presidency over a Trump presidency (and most democrats too), but he seems adamant in his decision to not seek the White House.  It was pointed out, though, that he made similar remarks before accepting to be the Speaker of the House. Although the two position are quite different, the possibility is always out there.
