Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Bringing the Hijab to NYFW

On Monday, Anniesa Hasibuan made history by not only being the first Indonesian to showcase her work at an official New York Fashion Week venue but also by bringing out hijabs with all 48 outfits out on the runway. A win for modest fashion.

At just 28 years old, Anniesa stunned the audience by doing something remarkable. Her collection, broadly based on intricate lace designs, embroidered skirts and metallic tops, made fashion history. Trousers, kimonos, tunics and gowns, Anniesa Hasibuan’s work was truly elegant. This is a designer who definitely deserves attention.

Her work and this recognition is something that can potentially create a shift to one day normalise hijab in America –  a country where people have been rejected from jobs and colleges just for wearing the hijab, now has them on its runway. As she begins to take over the fashion world and make history, Anniesa Hasibuan is successfully helping in breaking down stereotypes and common misconceptions.
