Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Pauline Hanson – Australia’s Donald Trump.

This article is in response to one that I read in the Daily Mail. Now, I have no issue with the above article, aside from the fact that it could vilify the Muslim lady. If not familiar with Pauline Hanson or her views it could be easily assumed that the Muslim lady was just angry and irrational but that is not quite the case. Whilst it may not have been right for the lady to try and prevent the gentleman from entering how she felt was not wrong. I am writing in response to the linked article because despite hearing of Pauline Hanson whilst travelling in Australia, I had forgotten, laughed it off, not believing that someone so outrageous could actually be of any influence in the 21st century. Then I remembered Trump. When Trump first began his presidential campaign no one took his bid seriously, not believing that it would amount to anything yet here Trump stands as the republican presidential candidate.

The  Senator and party leader is Australia’s equivalent to Donald Trump -racist, xenophobic and the bearer of a distinctive coiffure.

Like Trump, Hanson is capitalising off of ignorance and in the words of race discrimination commissioner, ‘stoking division’, with both calling for a ban on Muslim immigration in their respective nations. Trump’s wish to build a wall is synonymous with Hanson wanting to rid her ‘home’ of Asians. In her maiden speech to parliament she said “I and most Australians want our immigration policy radically reviewed and that of multiculturalism abolished. I believe we are in danger of being swamped by Asians.Between

1984 and 1995, 40% of all migrants coming into this country were of Asian origin. They have their own culture and religion, form ghettos and do not assimilate. Of course, I will be called racist, but if I can invite whom I want into my home, then I should have the right to have a say in who comes into my country. A truly multicultural country can never be strong or united.” Thus before anyone criticizes the Muslim lady for trying to stop the man from entering the university remember that he is supportive of a group that wishes to stop her and those that share her faith from even entering the country.

Whats ironic is that both Australia and America are country’s with a populace that are all migrants themselves. The only difference being time.  The indigenous people of these states are now the severe minority with the vast majority being the descendants of migrants. Despite this both Trump and Hanson have assumed a hypocritical standpoint of racial superiority and excessive patriotism. There is nothing with loving your country, but it is the people that make it a ‘home’ – all of them whether they came 2 months ago, 2 years ago or 200 years ago.
