Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

#BlueLivesMatter, But Only If You’re White

Aml Elsokary, a proud hijab-wearing police officer, was harassed and threatened over the weekend.

Elsokary went to drop off her 16-year-old son in Brooklyn. After parking her car, she returned to find her son being bothered and shoved by a white male who looked to be in his 30s. Aml Elsokary tried to intervene but was called an ‘ISIS b*tch’. The man also threatened to cut her throat before leaving.
This was a hate-fuelled attack and it hasn’t been the only recent one.

Since Trump’s election, the frequency of these crimes has been growing and growing, but where is the “Blue Lives Matter” outcry?

Why isn’t anyone stepping up to defend this woman who has been celebrated time and time again for her heroic actions? Why is it so different this time? I think we all know why.

The hesitation of the people who usually speak out to defend Blue Lives speaks volumes. I naively assumed that crowd would be all over this one, but I guess not. Your silence is deafening and your racism is showing. There are conditions to your campaign. #BlueLivesMatter… but only if you’re white. #BlueLivesMatter… but not if you’re Muslim.

Stop using the movement only for when it suits you. Stop using it just to clash with #BlackLivesMatter. Stop using #BlueLivesMatter as a means to mask your racism.
