Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

To My Friends And Family Who Voted For Trump

You have let me down.

Are you happy? Are you proud of what the man you elected is doing? Or do you just not care, now that it doesn’t affect you? Does it not matter to you, because you aren’t being detained in airports? Does it not matter to you, because you aren’t a Syrian child who was promised an American foster family who has now been denied that same promise? Does it not matter to you, because your healthcare isn’t in jeopardy? Does it not matter to you, because your position in society has been elevated and cemented into stone?

How do you feel, watching the man you elected chew up humanity and then proceed to pick his teeth with the statue of liberty and fling the bits and pieces left over onto the constitution you so desperately clung to during the Obama administration?

Why are you retreating into the shadows now, after the damage you’ve done has just moved into the White House and begun wreaking havoc? Where are your voices? And for those of you who call yourselves Christian (or any religion for that matter) where is your religion? Where is your compassion? Your love? Did it disappear? Did you send it with your ballot? After you chose “Republican”, was there a box you could check to leave your humanity behind? We know you marked away your common sense, decency and intelligence in the primaries. We know you checked the box to indicate your complete and total unawareness and refusal to acknowledge history last winter. All that time between then and the presidential election and you didn’t learn anything. All that time and your empathy shrunk to apathy.

If you’re sorry, I do not forgive you. I do not care about regrets you may have. It comforts me none. Your thoughts and feelings concerning your president became irrelevant on November 9th, 2016. You set the path of history towards heartlessness. You did this. You created and supported this mess. Now it’s up to you to fix it. Prove yourself to the world. Prove that you’re not racist. Prove that you’re not homophobic. Prove your religion. If these are the things you stand by, if you were sad that you were profiled and stereotyped for voting for Trump, now is your chance to prove it.

Your silence is deafening, while my people’s voices are being raised. Congratulations. You have now fallen to the wayside of history. You are now a bystander in this country that you so love. Though you’ve claimed to be the hardest working people in this nation, guess who has the biggest weight falling upon their shoulders, because of your actions? People like me, other revolutionaries. The new most in-demand blue-collar job in America: piecing humanity back together, brick and mortar. Worker demographic: mid-twenties, college graduate, most likely a person of color.

I hope you’re happy.
