Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

SUPREMACY VS. EQUALITY

‘Within multiple movements for social issues, there are two types of people. You have the supremacist and on the other hand, you have the equalist (not a proper term but you get the idea). Supremacy and equality are all too different terms that many confuse***.

When people confuse the two, they get social ideas all wrong and assume that feminism means that women are better than men, or that the black lives matter movement is striving towards absolute black power. People refuse to act based on their knowledge, or rather their ignorance, and don’t stand up for very important topics. To avoid further corruption of a nation, this article will address the difference between supremacy and equality. Supremacy /soo ‘ prems/ : -the state or condition of being superior to all others in authority, power, or status. Example: Laila strived for supremacy because she believed that white people held power for too long. She also considered all women better than men.

Supremacy is built on greed, and a desire for power over social groups. Don’t be fooled, supremacy is not always a bad thing. Some people simply consider themselves more capable as leaders or believe they have a better “use of power”. Contrary to popular belief, supremacy is not exactly the same thing as a social totalitarianism. So again, do not be fooled. Although, there are supremacists who are driven by hatred and those are the people who seemingly catch the eye of people who haven’t decided what side of the table they’ll sit on. They give any ideal a bad reputation. THEY DO NOT DEFINE A SOCIAL IDEAL/ISSUE. This is usually where people get confused. Equality / ‘ kwld / : -the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities Example: The Black Lives Matter movement aimed to promote racial equality and stop the killing of unarmed black victims. Equality is a simple concept. Think of it this way. 4x=20. “4” represents the minority and “x” represents their differences. The “20” represents the majority.

The equal sign represents just that- equality. Finding the value of “x” is simply finding the common ground between the two groups. It’s very cheesy but it makes a lot of sense. Equal rights movements are constantly mistaken for supremacist movements. A great majority of those who don’t consider themselves feminist think that feminism means that men are less than women, when the definition of feminism is gender equality. The same goes for Black Lives Matter, which is confused with supremacy, causing the backlash trend, #AllLivesMatter. People fail to see that Black Lives Matter strives for equality amongst all races, but there was a spike in the number of black people getting killed by police and not receiving justice, hence the beginning of the modern civil rights movement. EQUALITY MEANS EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL RESPECT. IT’S IN THE NAME. Brief overview: Supremacy means superior. Equality means equals. Don’t confuse them. Choose knowledge over ignorance. Look into an ideal before you argue against it. Thanks for reading! xx Caitlin ***Whether or not you choose supremacy over equality does not define you as a person as long as it isn’t hateful. It’s your own opinion, after all.
