Who Said 2 Parents Are Better Than 1?

Why doesn’t anyone talk about the single parents out there raising their children the best way they possibly can? Seriously, why not? Growing up with a single mom after my dad left seemed so normal to me, but at around 13 or 14 I realized that a majority of my friends came from two parent households, so I never really had anyone to relate to. So let’s get into it:

Shoutout to all the single moms out there for being both a mother and fatherly figure. Thank you so much on behalf of all the kids like me.

Shoutout to all the singles dads out there for being both a father and motherly figure. Thank you on behalf of all the kids raised by one.

Seriously, single parents DO NOT get enough credit. They work their butts off to make sure their children are happy and healthy regardless of what shape all that work puts them through. They put their children before themselves, before their own health, before their own happiness.

Some single parents have to work 2(+) jobs just to be able to provide for their kids and put them through school to come out successul, ambitious adults. Some single parents have more than one child and that’s just crazy harder than simply having an only child. Yet, they still manage to do whatever they can to keep their kids out of trouble.

What’s so great about single parents though? That they deserve a shoutout? Single parents can teach so many life lessons, it’s amazing. For example, they teach you how to be independant. If a father works a 9-5 job to provide for his family and still manage to keep the household intact by paying bills, getting you through school, taking you to the doctor when you’re sick even when he has an important meeting, then you can sure as hell stand up on your own two feet and be something.

Oh, and let’s not forget how PROUD some single parents are. I mean, all of our parents brag about how great their child is, but imagine this coming from a mother who lost her husband and was left with two headstrong kids. It’s an emotional experience. ONE person got their kids to the point of being something to brag about. Proud moment, indeed.

Can single parents seriously get more recognition? They deserve so much more. And on that note I’d like to leave a personal message:

Thank you to my strong, beautiful mother for raising me singlehandly all these years. Thank you for staying so strong throughout the years when dad wasn’t around anymore. Thank you for providing for my older brother and I. I know we take advantage of you a lot and we shouldn’t. You do so much for us, we don’t even realize. You got Brenn through college and you’re getting me through private school even when we both know it’s hard to afford. You would die for us and it’s insane, but know that we would do the same for you. Thank you mom, I love you.
