Prom season is upon us, and with it comes the added pressure of finding an outfit. Everyone wears something different to prom, from plus sized prom dresses to suits to jumpsuits. dresses to suits to jumpsuits. If you’re planning to go the gown route, the one question of paramount importance is:
How do I look good in my dress?
Below are a few ways to ensure that you look as great as possible on the night of your prom:
- Find your dream dress
Is there a dress you dreamed about when you were three years old and first saw Cinderella? Or a dress your favorite actress wore on the red carpet, that made you weak with longing? Granted, most of us don’t have a fairy godmother to conjure up a ballgown, or the big budget it takes to score a designer creation, but there’s probably a way to come close. Your local vintage store, resale shop, or thrift store might have hidden treasures lurking in the racks. Or your mom’s closet may produce something unexpected. If you have the talent to sew your own dress, get out the patterns and dare to diy it! Follow your heart, and you’ll be fine.
- Find accessories
Even the simplest dress can turn into a prom-worthy picture if you add a few baubles. A vintage necklace, dangly earrings, or a set of exotic bangles can transform your look. There’s no need to drag a tote bag to the dance: a little beaded clutch always connotes glamour. And whether you add Blahniks or Birkenstocks, your shoes will complete the look.
- Love the dress
Regardless of your skin color, height, weight, gender, complexion — whatever — you will look amazing in your dress, whether it’s a miniskirt or an evening gown. There are no specifications to looking amazing. When you put on your dress, you will look absolutely beautiful. You will be the belle of the ball, and you will work it. Simple as that.
- Be royalty for a day
There are often a lot of judgemental people trying to bring you down. And it can be extremely difficult to ignore them. After you get your dress, there might still be people who won’t accept the way you look in your dress. But if you feel great, go with it. After all, it’s your dress and your prom. Own it, and have a perfect prom!
