21st century art is far from dead — here are three feminist artists you should know.
Molly Soda- Molly Soda (Amalia Soto) is an American internet-based visual artist. Molly is a cyber-feminist who got her start in the early days of Tumblr. Her early 2000s-style blog holds all of her well-developed projects while maintaining a young and vulnerable aesthetic. Currently, she is holding an exhibit called Comfort Zone, a collection of selfies representing herself in the digital age.
Signe Pierce- Signe is a Manhattan-based visual and performance “Reality Artist.” Her breakout is a filmed performance called American Reflexxx in which she walks through a city confidently dressed in a short dress and reflective metallic mask over her face, and is verbally and physically harassed by passersby. Her works generally surround consumption and life in the digital age. Recently, she was featured by Refinery 29 and co-curated with the previously mentioned Molly Soda.
Petra Collins- Petra Collins is a very well-known contemporary feminist photographer and director. She is known for photographing women in unconventional ways, calling out unfair beauty standards, and being an all-around patriarchy crusher. Her breakthrough was in 2013, when she posted a picture of herself wearing a bikini while being unshaved. Instagram deleted the image and Collins called them out. Collins is well-rounded, too, from creating zines like The Ardorous, to directing a Carly Rae Jepsen video.
