In his article, “Why Voting For Donald Trump is Morally A Good Choice“, Wayne Grudem outlines his belief that Donald Trump is the best choice for president for a Christian wanting to be in good moral standing. He recognizes Trump as a “good candidate with bad flaws”; however, Trump’s flaws disqualify him to be president. Trump’s treatment of women, his long standing history of racial discrimination, and his overall terrible temperament show voting for Trump is the most immoral thing one could do on election day.
Donald Trump’s remarks about women are reason enough to question his character and the character of those who choose to vote for him. As a husband and father, it is despicable that Grudem can state that voting for Trump is a morally good choice. There is nothing moral about Trump’s gruesome and offensive remarks about women. He has degraded women based off of their looks, has been caught on video bragging about sexually assaulting women, and even commented that “if Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.” These are only a few examples of Trump’s blatant disrespect for women, however, they most accurately display his unethical character. His remarks are demeaning and threaten to set back the progress women have made throughout history
Trump’s extensive history of racial discrimination does not represent good values or reflect good moral character. In his article, Grudem chooses to deny this side of Trump completely, and denounces it as a hoax. Grudem states, “On the other hand, I think some of the accusations hurled against him are unjustified…I think these are unjust magnifications by a hostile press exaggerating some careless statements he has made.” In the past, Trump has been sued for racial discrimination, and the cases have been settled privately. Trump has never publicly denied that he did not discriminate against African Americans, only stated that the case was settled. He has made racist remarks against Mexicans and Islamophobic remarks against Muslims everywhere. These are facts, not accusations, and reflect Trump’s overall foulness and lack of respect for a large demographic of Americans.
If elected president, Trump’s atrocious temperament will be the downfall of America. The fingers that are quick to type a tweet because someone got under Trump’s thin skin are the same fingers that will have access to the nuclear button. A man of such little temperament should not be trusted with the power of running a nation. If knowing how unethical of a person Mr. Trump is does not prove the immorality of voting for him, knowing the effects his actions will have on America should.
Everyone has “bad flaws”, but Trump’s disrespect for women, obnoxious temperament, and racism are all flaws that should disqualify him from being president. Voting for Trump does not, in anyway, reflect a morally good choice. In fact, Americas who vote for Trump on election day are probably the worst kinds of people this earth has to offer, and will probably build up immense amounts of bad karma with the cast of their ballots.
