It’s that time of year again and whether you celebrate Christmas or not, you finally get a break off from school. We’re all taking in the fact that we are done finals and have completed a semester of school, which means that we can finally sleep in and hibernate for the rest of our break. While relaxing during winter break and doing things you like such as staying up till 3 a.m. watching movies is important, it is also important to use your free time in other ways. Here are some ways in how you can make the most out of your winter break.
1) Be a tourist in your own hometown:
Whether you’re in college or in high school, it is always fun to explore parts of your hometown that you haven’t been to in a while or haven’t been to at all. Maybe go to a childhood location or visit that local coffee shop that you’ve never gotten the chance to go to.
2) Read for fun:
During school, we’re all busy readings textbooks and lecture notes which means less time to read books for fun. Whether it’s an old book you used to read as a kid, a comic book, or a new best seller, it’s always good to read a book for enjoyment every now and then.
3) Volunteer:
After all, the holidays are about giving back! Try dedicating a day to volunteering somewhere, such as a soup kitchen, animal shelter, or even go through your closet to find old clothes to donate.
4) Catch up with old friends:
If you’ve been away at college, it can be easy to lose contact with friends from your hometown. So if you get the chance to come home for the holidays, plan a reunion or a coffee date with a few friends who you haven’t spoken to in a while.
5) Plan out your next semester:
Although you’re probably tired from just finishing this semester and you don’t want to think about the next semester at all, it’s still a good idea to plan it out if you haven’t done so already. Planning out your schedule and goals for the upcoming semester will save you a lot of stress when you go back to school.
