Former Vine Star, and current Internet personality Jay Versace spewed blatantly transphobic comments on twitter during a fight with another Twitter user. After a tweet that jabbed at Versace’s apparent lack of furniture, Versace responded with “Is that why you don’t got no tits or a pussy? Just cause you wanna be a botch don’t mean you gotta hate on them [fingernail painting emoji]”, to which Twitter user @barbiegutzz responded, “But who said I wanted to be a girl… lmfaoooo”, to which Versace finalized “You do Shit bitches do & you’re arguing with one. If you wanna be a n**** argue with a N**** if not stay in your place and out of my mentions”. The tweets were soon thereafter deleted.
Wait aren’t you the one that dresses up as women for laughs? @tharealversace pic.twitter.com/XqenPsfDVN

Transgender people of all sorts struggle with body confidence every single day. Going through transitions can be a self confidence killer, with people not yet reaching their desired body type, and it having a severe affect on their mental health. The National Eating Disorder Information Centre of Canada says, “Perhaps… the most important issues related to trans people and body image issues are… the pressures to conform to cisgender standards of beauty that confound most trans people.”
With someone with as big of a following as Versace (368,000 Twitter followers as of the posting of this piece) making such heinous comments, it can theoretically spread transphobic ideologies to 368,000 people. People don’t have to have “tits” or a “pussy” to identify as a woman (“botch” in Jay Versace’s case), and by saying that it spreads false ideas of what gender really is. So shame on you, Jay Versace. You should’ve stuck with putting things on your head for cheap laughs.
