New Year’s resolutions have always been a type of motivation to kickstart the year. It is a list of things that you want to buy/do/achieve with high hopes that you will cross all of them by the last day of December every single year. According to Statistic Brain, only 8% of people had succeeded in achieving their resolutions. Some of you may make it a tradition, some may somehow stay on the line with a little faith that everything is going to be well while some may not believe in resolutions and just ride or die their year with everything that’s ahead of them.
Whichever side that you stand on, it is proven that people who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times most likely to attain than people who don’t explicitly make any resolutions.
As your loyal fairy godmother that will save all your resolutions from being drained out of your minds, I will guide you through your journey to make 2017 (and each year of your life), a year to remember.
1. Know where you’re going, and how you’re going to get there. It is very important to know how to do something before you do it. For an example, if you’re planning to get an entrance pass to Oxford University, you should know what course do you want to take and the requirements to be eligible to apply. It is highly recommended for you to draw your path to make sure your vision is clear, or if you’re too lazy to do so, just sketch them anywhere in your journal or paste in on your study table as a reminder for you to stay focused. You can also be creative and hang your path on the ceiling so you can look and dream of it when you doze off the night.
2. Dreams don’t always stay as dreams, wake up and play the game. You won’t get to the grocery store in front of your house without a few minutes of walking or a bicycle ride, neither your resolutions. Taking the Oxford University entrance analogy, for instance, we have talked about the requirements of getting into the university. What’s next? Earn them. Study your ass off and get involved in school activities to earn extra credits. Be proactive and start running around the clock like the entrance results and whatever you hoped for, are due tomorrow. You will feel tired and worn out but trust me, your hard work will pay off.
3. Put first things first. Getting an entrance pass to one of the most prestigious universities in the world is more important than finding the right one to fix your messed up love life. You should know which should be prioritized and be ticked off the list that will grant you more benefits on a long-term basis. These petty issues are your pit-stops but you should always look forward to the finishing line, your main goal. But hey, getting to further your studies in Oxford University with a hot, smart boyfriend is a bonus!
4. A goal is sweeter when it is achieved together. Along the way, you may find people that have the same interest or even has the same resolutions as you have. They may be your best friends, your classmates or some random fellow teenager that you befriend with on the Internet. Instead of taking your similar preferences as a competition to see who succeeds and who fails, it is better for all of you to join each other and work on it together. Exchange opinions and ways on how to make your resolutions come true and maybe all of you can find a more effective way to achieve them that suits all of your lifestyles. An afterparty is best celebrated with the people around you that taste success as you do.
5. Remember, failure is a step to success. If you failed to achieve your resolutions this year, improvise your plans and strive for more next year. Every ending is a new beginning so close your planner and open a new one.
Stay calm, stay healthy inside and out, and The Affinity Magazine team wishes you a prosperous Happy New Year!
