The Media is Lying To You: Donald Trump did Not Change the GOP’s Decision, the People Did

Would you believe CNN if they told you that Donald Trump’s tweets about the GOP’s plan to gut the independent ethics committee stopped the GOP? Most would. And they would be wrong in doing so as multiple major news media outlets such as CNN, the Wall Street Journalthe Washington Times, and the New York Times have all relayed the idea that Donald Trump’s tweets served as the impetus behind the House Republicans to cancel their plans to gut the independent ethics committee.

This morning Donald Trump tweeted the following:

[#DTS meaning ‘Drain the Swamp’]

After Donald pressed “tweet”, the GOP recanted its thoughts on gutting the OCE (Office of Congressional Ethics) and news sources began spreading that this was all the doing of Donald Trump’s tweets. CNN stated “President-elect Donald Trump dramatically strong-armed House Republicans into line Tuesday in his first Washington power play, after they voted to gut an ethics watchdog in a manner that undercut his vow to drain the establishment “swamp” in article entitled “House Republicans pull plan to gut independent ethics committee after Trump tweets”

The OCE works to limit corruption and misconduct by members of Congress, therefore if it was removed it would be easier for Congressman to do illegal things and for these illegal actions to go unnoticed.

However, now it has been revealed that it was not simply Donald pressing “tweet” on twitter, but instead huge amounts of citizens calling in asking for Congress to not demolish the OCE. Bloomberg quoted Representative Walter Jones, a North Carolina Republican who said:

“We have got just a tremendous number of calls to our office here and district offices concerned about this.”

So why would the media continue to propel the idea that it was singlehandedly Trump who stopped the GOP from gutting the OCE? Why would the media give him so much credit for this action and completely take away any notion that it was the American people’s concern over the fate of their country? Throughout the entire election race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, many people thought that the media’s attention on Trump was only helping him and hurting Hillary; and now with this news evolving we see the media is only continuing to insidiously support Trump. Whether or not this is purposeful is unclear, but it is beginning to look as if it is.

This situation also raises the question of whether or not the legitimate media is now skewing stories. America wants the whole story not a piece of the story. Trump is not a man truly concerned with ethics, but it should be known that the American people are —- not the opposite.
