Yesterday, Jan. 21, 2017, thousands of women, and men, came together across the country for the Women’s March to protest the presidency of Donald Trump. The march started in Washington D.C. in the morning, and since then, it went worldwide.
According to the Women’s March official website, there were around 673 sister marches going on; not just in the United States, but internationally. From the U.S., to Canada, to Japan, to South Africa, and many more countries, women continue to stand in solidarity with each other. They are fighting for the rights of women, LGBTQ, and people of all ethnic backgrounds in the wake of Trump’s inauguration.
The march gained immense coverage in the media, with many celebrities like, Alicia Keys, Demi Lovato, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and America Ferrera marching and speaking to the crowds to support and participate in the cause. The airports, subways, and streets had been filled with women in pink hats, dubbed as “Pussycat Hats”, who were raging with passion. And, although, this is the first Women’s March, it already broke a record.
With about 2 million people marching around the world, the Women’s March has now become the largest inaugural protest in the history of the United States.
Over 2 million men and women across the globe have come together to fight for women’s rights and to show Donald Trump and his supporters that we are not for him and we will not stay silent during these next four years.
If you were marching yesterday, thank you for your support. If you were unable to march yesterday, but you were still supporting from home, thank you. This was a record breaking event, and we will continue to make history in the next few years because we, as a society, cannot continue to let bigoted people take power and decide what is right for us.
