With less than a week in office Team Trump has already had some issues with the truth. First notably the press secretary’s statement that Trump’s inauguration was the largest ever and even Trump himself saying their was “a million, a million and a half people”. All claims that have been proved false. Yet Team Trump stands by this, despite photographic evidence to suggest otherwise. To make matters worse, Kellyanne Conway, Counsellor to the President stated they only used “alternative facts.” Which is really just a fancy way to say they lied.
Yet you’d think they’d learned their lesson, but apparently not as Team Trump’s rocky relationship with the truth has continued. Trumps Press Secretary came out today to defend Trumps decision to reinstate the “Global Gag Rule”, yet at the same time ignoring that by doing so, Trump is hitting the most vulnerable in society. This basically means now that the U.S. will put no money towards family planning services abroad. However, US money does not go towards abortion. Yet the Press Secretary has seems to simply ignore this fact.
“…we’re standing up not just for life… but also taxpayer funds that are being spent overseas to perform an action that is contrary to the values of this president.”
But taxpayer funds are not being directly used for abortions. Really this is an everlasting attack on women’s healthcare and reproductive rights. This isn’t going to affect the rich women of those countries, it’s going to effect those who need assistance the most. This comes just days after the women’s march when many were questioned why they were marching. Even Trump himself acted oblivious. This is what was marched against. However, it seems Team Trump is ignoring the thousands that were asking to simply be treated with respect.
So is Team Trump ever going to come out with something that is an actual fact and not just an “alternative fact”? It’s safe to say I have my doubts. The truth is not an opinion and it’s about time Team Trump learned this.
