We have now made it to day five of Trump’s Administration and President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on immigration, confirming one of the main promises of his hate-filled campaign – a border wall between the U.S and Mexico and deportation of undocumented immigrants. This also includes a list of crimes committed by said immigrants to be published weekly by the Department Of Homeland Security.
The problem with putting immigrants under major scrutiny is the fact that it does nothing but encourage citizens of our nation to be afraid of people that originate from other countries. In fact, many studies confirm that native-born Americans are much more likely to commit crime than undocumented immigrants in the United States. Now while it’s true that immigrants do commit crimes, there have been tons of studies that show immigrants are far less dangerous than U.S citizens. In communities with large populations of immigrants, there actually tend to be lower rates of violent crimes.
Throughout this election, it’s been known for conservatives to commonly associate Mexican immigrants with crime. Take for example Donald Trump when, at the beginning of his campaign, said, “[Mexicans are] bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
This only causes fear-mongering among U.S citizens and promotes racist ideologies that actually contradict our constitution’s idea of a free, accepting country.
Compare this to the “black Americans commit more crime than any other race” idea that has been proven wrong by multiple studies. Crime statistics in 2010 from the FBI confirm that white people lead black people in robbery and rape crimes. So we now expect there to be a white crime list published soon.
