Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

The National Parks Service Has Gone Rogue

In this terrifying reality of walls and Muslim immigration bans, the Resistance movement has a new face: The National Parks Service.

Yes, the National Parks have gone rogue, expressing their dissent against Trump, especially his views and actions- or lack thereof- on climate change.

It began on Tuesday, January 24, when the Twitter account for the Badlands National Park posted facts about climate change that were deleted soon after.  The National Parks Service later released a statement claiming the tweets were by former park rangers and the account had been “compromised.”  Many people, however, were able to screenshot these tweets which were actually just facts about climate change that Trump’s administration has chosen to ignore.

However, the “Ranger Rebels,” as I have dubbed them, did not stop there.  More park accounts began tweeting facts, and one account for the Death Valley National Park tweeted pictures of Japanese-Americans in the internment camps that had been located there.

An unofficial account for the National Parks Service “Resistance Team” (The Alt US National Park Service) sprung up within the hour, dedicated solely to facts about climate change and opposing Trump.  They claim to be run by current park rangers, a claim that has yet to be confirmed or denied.  Either way, the account is incredibly factual and their tweets are peppered with #resist, a very important message.

The rogue National Park Service rangers remain anonymous, but I have a few speculations as to who it could be:

The National Parks may not have been the hero we expected, but they were the hero we needed, and with all their talk of resistance, you have to wonder: is this the real life?  Or this just dystopian fantasy?
