If you’re a high school freshman, congratulations! You’re halfway done with one out of your four years of high school! Surely you’ve learned a lot in the past six or so months, but trust me, you still have a lot more to learn.
First, it is OKAY if you have no idea where your second semester classes are. And if people are making fun of you for that, just remember that they were in the same position not too long ago. In all honesty, I’m leaving high school in four months and I still forget where I’m going, so don’t feel embarrassed for not having a clue where you are. Just like you figured out your first semester classes, you will also figure out your second semester classes.
Second, the friends you have made this year are probably not going to be there throughout all of your four years. Yes, there will be some who you’ll be friends with for a long time, but a lot of the close friends you make will be in your junior and senior year (sadly). But don’t dwell on it too much. Every person you meet in high school will shape who you are by the time you graduate. So cherish everyone you’ve met this year, and thank them for making your freshman year a good one.
Third, the experience you’ve had this year may be the best. People always say that senior year is the best, but as a high school senior, I look back on my days as a freshman and miss how easy it was for me back then compared to now. You may not realize it, but high school gets a lot more stressful than you think. But if I learned anything from my freshman year, it’s that although things may get bad, better things await you. So make the best of the rest of your freshman year.
Lastly, and most importantly, do not slack off now that the year is coming to an end. For most freshmen, it’s their first time taking an actual final exam. Keep on top of your school work and make sure that you’re studying for those exams. If you slack off now, you’ll regret it. Do the very best that you can, because you’re going to need to keep up good habits throughout the rest of your high school career. It’s hard to regain those good habits when you allow yourself to fall off and not do anything at the end of the year.
In the end, congratulations. Freshman year can be really difficult for a lot of people. But you’re half way done! Before you know it, you’ll be in my position and looking back on this year and wondering where all the time went. So make the best out of these last few months because you’ll remember it forever.
