Whether they talked about girls, sports or sensitive state information, one fact is clear: the current American president’s campaign team had repeated and consistent contact with Russian intelligence officials.
These communications, intercepted by both law enforcement and intelligence agencies were initially discovered roughly around the time evidence of a Russian hack of the DNC was discovered. The knowledge of this new development however had not been made public until today. Even then, as the investigation is still ongoing, the officials confirming them only did so under anonymity.
Following his ex-national security advisor Michael Flynn’s resignation over potentially inappropriate discussions with the Russian ambassador, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s latest revelation may not come as that wild a surprise. There is, furthermore, little doubt regarding the quality of this information.
In fact, four current and former American officials have corroborated the claim. Day by day, Trump’s presidency is revealed to be more in bed with Putin’s Russia than the public originally thought. That’s significant considering the degree to which the American president had already been associated with his despotic lover.
The communications don’t stop at mere campaign aides, however, but reach up and entangle Trump’s associates. One of them is Paul Manafort, Trump campaign chairman and –get this– a former political consultant in Russia and Ukraine. Mr. Manafort defended himself vigorously during a telephone interview, denying the communications, calling the whole question “absurd” and provided a defense sure to be studied and praised for centuries to come:
“It’s not like these people wear badges that say, ‘I’m a Russian intelligence officer.’”
Absolutely fascinating. This kids, is how the corrupt cookie crumbles.
