The ACT (American College Testing) is a test many people have to take in order to get into the college of their choice. Most colleges require a certain score or higher in order for you to even have a chance to be accepted. For some colleges, if you make a certain score on the ACT, they will give you a full ride, meaning you do not have to pay your college tuition. It is amazing. This is a big deal for some people, because not everyone can afford to move on to a higher education after high school. So to be told that if you study hard and get a high enough score on a test you will not have to pay for further education is a blessing in itself. To be able to actually achieve that score, Jesus himself must have blessed the pencil you took your test with, or maybe you just properly read this article. Either way, I hope this article can be of some help to those preparing for the upcoming ACT’s.
- ACT WORKSHOPS – ACT workshops are where people who are planning on taking the ACTs come together and listen to the words of wisdom from the people who excelled at the ACT have to offer. The Alcorn State University Vicksburg Campus offers ACT workshops from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Two upcoming dates are January 21st and 28th.
- HAVE A STRATEGY – Believe it or not, there is not a stack of information you need to know. If you are a student who has paid attention in class and has been able to absorb the knowledge taught to you over the years such as general grammar rules, or basic mathematic formulas, then you should be just fine in the knowledge department. If not, then I suggest a tutor. Find a friend who is willing to help you. The thing that trumps most people is the fact that each section of the test is timed. So if you spend too long on one question, then chances are, you may not be able to properly finish the rest of the section. If that is the case, fill in all the answers you possibly can, even if you did not read the question. This is why: THEY DO NOT COUNT OFF IF YOU GET A QUESTION WRONG! They do, however, count off if you do not. So if you have the option to lose points or not affect your points at all, guess which one you might want to go with?
- PRACTICE TEST – How can you come up with a strategy for a test if you do not even know what the test is going to be like? The answer is simple – you cannot. That is why our school has provided us with practice test booklets in the guidance office. If you would prefer, you can buy your own practice booklet, it will probably have a lot more information and tips and tricks to passing the test.
- ONLINE PREP – There are websites you can go to in order to prepare for the ACT.
I have mentioned this in a previous article, and I would like to repeat these words for this article as well. “Do. Not. Stress. I know, it takes a lot of time and patience to get through this, but stressing never helps anything. Stay focused on your goal and don’t let anything keep you from achieving it!” Good luck!
