As I’m called for the class presentation I can already feel my hands trembling with fear. The fear that my tongue will get tied and the class will roar into laughter, the fear that a student may point out the greatly reddened pigment of my skin, and the fear of the class ridiculing me for the shaking of my hands. These fears are all originated from my past experiences.
My hands shake very easily, whether it’s because I’m nervous or excited, they are rarely steady. One of the things that irks me the most is when someone points it out, especially during school presentations. As if presenting in front of 20+ kids wasn’t nerve-wracking already, but some students have the audacity to yell out “wow, she’s shaking” in front of the whole class. It’s really unnecessary to make such a comment. I can assure you that I’m more than 100% aware that my hands are trembling at the moment, pointing it out makes the situation much worse.
In addition to my hands shaking, when I get nervous, embarrassed, or pretty much any little thing, my face turns obnoxiously red. Whenever that happens someone always has to point it out which causes my face to turn an even deeper shade of red. It’s truly pointless to make such a comment and it only makes matters worse.
If you’re the type to make such a rude comment I have a word of advice for you: don’t.
When one is evidently nervous, don’t bring attention upon it. Try to offer support instead. At the end of the day, no one likes the feeling of being nervous to the point they’re shivering like a tree. It’s extremely crucial to be as supportive as you possibly can, you never know how much that person may need it. If you see one of your classmates struggling to present because of their nerves, encourage them to keep going. Kindly smile at them and show them that they have your full attention. Something as small as a smile can have a significantly positive impact on the individual. You never know how far your kindness may go.
