Introducing The Next Generation Of Leaders And Thinkers

Passion Is the Most Important Quality To Possess

Pas·sion:
ˈpaSHən/
noun
 1. strong and barely controllable emotion.
or….

2. the suffering and death of Jesus.

But we’re going to discuss the first definition here. For me, passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion, but passion is also the driving force of success and happiness. I am currently in pursuit of a career in sports journalism, and as a woman, that takes passion. Being a writer, a teacher, a professional athlete, a videographer, and any other career in the spectrum, takes none other than passion.

In this day and age, there is an immense amount of pressure to make a lot of money, that’s it. It is preached and becoming a commonality for those to ditch their passions because passion no longer makes money — unless your passion is being a doctor or a nurse or an engineer and so on and so forth. Passion is often ignored in fear that success is unattainable because of a dream too big.

A life without passion is a life wasted. Passion is often overlooked due to the idea that a life without riches or a certain income is a miserable one. The common inferential leap that money causes happiness because those without superfluous amounts of money struggle to get by is weak because this inference doesn’t take into account the components of happiness and the definition of happiness and priorities vary from person to person.

What also varies from person to person is what they’re passionate about. In college, I’ve found it common that those look down on Communications or Art majors, but those who major in Business or Biology are revered. It’s time that nuances in passion be celebrated. So here are 3 reasons why passion is important:

1. “If you don’t love what you do, you won’t do it with much conviction or passion.” – Mia Hamm

Choosing the road less traveled is a key component to success and fulfillment. Completing a job well done is vital in any field. So, loving the field you’re in is beyond important. Work will never get old, it will never be dreaded and it will always be completed to the fullest. Passion is infectious and inspires those around leading to further success. There is nothing worse than waking up every morning to mindlessly attend a job you don’t care about for an adequate paycheck.

2.  Passion is the beginning of success.

Passion is the root of success because success begins with passion. Against all odds, passion is the driving force of success and is the component that will weather any storm. Each person is equipped with passion, a good idea, and a dream. The latter can be lost and change over time, but passion never wavers.

3. Passion drives innovation

There are highs and lows of every job, but passion allows one to look past the dull days. When you work this passion, intuition, and conviction, innovation comes as a result of an increased level of curiosity and eagerness to learn more. When pursuing a career you are passionate about, you are more inclined to come up with ideas, which in turn, leads to further success.

Of course, there are so many more reasons why passion is important, these are just a few. The thing about passion is that whatever you pursue when equipped with it, will not come easy. Living passionately does not come easy, but it will be worth it. So, I encourage you, I challenge you,  to live passionately. “Do what you love, love what you do”.
