As the days of summer break fly by, more and more people start to run out of ideas of what to do before school starts. Fear not, for I have created a list of enjoyable things that can help create a memorable break. By following this list, you’ll have so many stories to tell your friends when school resumes, rather than being the person who regrets laying in bed all summer. So sit back and continue reading for suggestions on how to improve your summer break!
- Go camping
- Catch fireflies. The best time to do this is at night
- Have a picnic, preferably with your family and/or friends
- Go stargazing. This is best done with someone who is close to you
- Drink homemade lemonade. Who doesn’t love cold lemonade on a burning hot summer day?
- Go on a run. Relieves stress
- Walk around the neighborhood with friends. Talk about whatever makes you happy
- Dive into a pool. This will never not feel good when it’s 90° F
- Learn a new skill
- Try something new
- Do something you’ve always wanted to do but never had time for
- Teach yourself a new language. I started teaching myself Italian through an app called Mango
- Discover more about yourself, such as fears or even sexuality
- Eat ice cream. Suggestion: cookies and cream
- Shadow a doctor
- Volunteer at a place that interests you. For instance, I would volunteer at a hospital because I want to study medicine in college
- Read a book. Suggestions: Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
- Go to a baseball game
- Play golf, possibly at Top Golf
- Go to Six Flags and/or Worlds of Fun
- Attend a concert with your closest friends. The Weeknd will be going on his Starboy tour soon
- Road trip
- Go fishing
- Workout. It’s never too late to start going to the gym!
- Make dinner for your family
- Skydive
- Bungee jumping
- Ride a bike around the park
- Go to a museum. Learn about the history behind the art
- Watch YouTube videos. Suggestions: Lilly Singh (Superwoman), Miranda Sings,
- Get a job. Even if you’re 14, there are still job openings!
- Start a blog
- Write about your summer experiences
- Scroll through social media
- Order a unicorn frappuccino at Starbucks
- Try a new restaurant
- Play board games, such as Monopoly or The Game of Life
- Do the “Blazin’ Wing Challenge” at Buffalo Wild Wings
- Get a new haircut
- Work on your résumé
- Meditate. This relieves stress and improves quality of life
- Make a Bitmoji
- Draw a picture
- Color in a coloring book
- Listen to music. Artist suggestions: Drake, The Chainsmokers, Rihanna, Beyoncé
- Do a puzzle. Even if you can’t buy a physical puzzle, there is an app that is available on the App Store called Jigsaw Puzzle that lets you do puzzles on your mobile device
- Clean your room
- Yoga
- Talk to a friend
- Watch a movie. Suggestions: Star Wars, The Matrix
- Make a bucket list
- Do something that terrifies you
- Dance outside
- Binge watch a show. Suggestions: Grey’s Anatomy (drama), How to Get Away with Murder (drama), Scandal (thriller), Shameless (comedy), How I Met Your Mother (comedy)
