As Thanksgiving approaches, we go down our list of things we are most thankful for but many tend to leave out their teachers. However, teachers are not only people who teach, but instead, they’ve also inspired and motivated generations of students.
Teachers are those who change one’s perception and turn someone into a better version of themselves.
It is not that we are not thankful for our teachers, it’s just that many of us are not used to express our gratitude. For this year’s Thanksgiving, don’t just simply draw a turkey with a “Thank you for being awesome” message. Instead, thank your teachers for the following things:
- For discovering your abilities and your strengths which you may have never known before: Without your teachers, you may have never known that you can write sarcastic yet thoughtful satires, solve a math problem with a very different logic, or give an impromptu speech in front of the class.
- For encouraging you to keep trying: Facing with societal standards and the versatile future, we fear and doubt our passion at times. However, teachers are always there to support and guide you on the right path.
- For accepting and teaching you, despite who you are outside of school or where you came from: They don’t really care about where you’re from or your family, you’ll always be a student to your teachers. Teachers try to be fair and to create the most friendly atmosphere in the classroom.
- For always trusting you: Despite other people’s suspicion about your ability or your classmates’ sardonic look about your weird comments in class, the teachers accept you for who you are and stay confident knowing that you will definitely succeed.
- For critiquing you at the right times and for all the fair punishments: The teacher will always point out your mistakes and help you fix them. Sometimes, teachers may have their own penalties to help you change.
- For all the compliments, the rewards that you’ve received: In addition to criticism, teachers never hold back their compliments. They try to encourage and motivate you to continue.
- For patiently answering your questions, even though they’ve gone over the lesson so many times: When you get stuck in a problem or when you can’t concentrate in class, the teacher will always be there, ready to explain again until you get it. At the end of the day, their goal is to help you learn, not to grade you.
- For caring about you even outside the classroom: Even before or after school, you can be sure to find a teacher to ask for advice and guidance without fearing that they will reject you.
- For becoming your second parent: Just as parents, teachers care and love you. Not only will they teach you their knowledge but they can also become someone whom you can share stories with like friends while getting guidance from an adult.
- For helping you grow: And after all, thank your teacher for being a role model, a positive force in your life to help you change, and someone who can guide you back to the right track, shaping you into a better person.
