Yes, it has happened. The day everyone has been dreading. A new president has been elected and though not everyone likes him, he won. Donald J. Trump will now be our 45th president beginning in January 2017 and until the 2020 elections. Like most, I’m pretty nervous. I’m terrified. Everything this man stands for, I’m against. So are many others.
Teens don’t normally like politics until they get older and begin to realize just how much of an impact it will have on their lives. You may hear adults say, “You shouldn’t be worried, you’re not an adult, this isn’t affecting you.” But, it is. Trump is racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc.. Our nation does NOT only consist of only white, straight, Christian Americans. We’re a diverse country.
That is why this election still affects teens and young adults. We’re all different. We all have different views, come from different backgrounds, and we’re not all ready for this change. Trump and his Vice President, Mike Pence, believe that anyone in the LGBTQ+ community can be “changed” or made “normal”. WRONG. You can’t change someone because we are who we are.
Immigrants have the right to live in this country just as much as we do without the threat of being “kicked out. They have the right to work the jobs we won’t. They’re not taking our jobs. They’re DOING the jobs we refuse to.
Yes, he may be president for the next four years, but you’re still a human being and you are unique and different in your own way, so don’t let him or anyone else take that away from you. Stay strong.
