So your senior year is coming up — you can see the future. Your freedom is reachable. The world is at your fingertips. You’ve been waiting for this moment since you were five. The ability to see what you could become and the reassurance that you would get there. It’s all so close, you can almost taste it.
But you start becoming relaxed with school. It’s your senior year. What are they going to do, kick you out? The answer is yes. Although it is your senior year, and you’re almost done, almost at the finish line, if you become flimsy with your school work and your classes in general, chances are you will not walk. Everyone knows how it is, senior year, time to chill out and wait for the future to begin.
However, everything you do in this year, the one that really counts, will pre-set the future for you. Whether you take it seriously or not, it will be reflected on where you turn up. Now is not the time to give up and party. Focus, just a little while longer, to really complete this journey. The ending of high school is not just an escape from public school imprisonment, it’s nostalgic and sad. You’re closing a prominent chapter in your life, and you might as well write it well.
You’ll soon be off to college, perhaps moving out of your childhood home into a city completely unknown to you. Making friends with people from all over the world, some of whom are completely different from you. Different views, different lives. Put in classes with professors who don’t know your name and classes so full you have to wait there an hour early to get a good seat. But, how do you expect to be prepared if you don’t take this last year of high school seriously?
What happens next is up to you; what you do is completely on your shoulders. Maybe you will take a year, prepare yourself mentally and financially. Or maybe you’ll leave right away. Or not at all. But that decision is entirely yours. What you decide to do is all your own. That responsibility is for you to take on as an adult. Whatever it is that you choose to do, make sure you do it well. Put in that effort. Make sure that your life is exactly the way you want it to be. It’s your life, and it’s time to live it the way you want to.
